City of Consuls
About Bitola
Bitola, known as the "City of Consuls," is one of North Macedonia's most elegant and culturally rich cities. Located in the Pelagonia region, this historic city served as an important diplomatic center during the Ottoman Empire, hosting numerous foreign consulates. Today, Bitola charms visitors with its neoclassical architecture, vibrant cultural scene, and proximity to ancient archaeological sites.
The city's crown jewel is Shirok Sokak, a beautiful pedestrian street lined with cafes, boutiques, and 19th-century buildings. Just outside the city lies Heraclea Lyncestis, an ancient Macedonian city founded by Philip II of Macedon, featuring some of the finest Roman mosaics in the Balkans. Bitola's rich cultural heritage is celebrated through numerous festivals, including the famous Manaki Brothers Film Festival.
