Strumica Carnival
Macedonia's most colorful celebration of spring and tradition
The Strumica Carnival is one of the oldest and most vibrant cultural events in North Macedonia, dating back over 1,400 years. This spectacular celebration marks the end of winter and welcomes spring with colorful parades, traditional masks, and joyous festivities.
The carnival features elaborate floats, traditional Macedonian costumes, and the famous "kukeri" - masked performers who dance through the streets to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune for the coming year. The event attracts participants and visitors from across the Balkans.
Street performances, traditional music, local cuisine, and craft exhibitions create an atmosphere of pure celebration. The carnival is not just entertainment but a living preservation of ancient Macedonian traditions and folklore.
